Wha a great season, with 9 teams we had ZERO teams involved in religation battles and a division champions, below is a recap of the 23 / 24 season
With 4 wins 3 draws and 3 defeats our A team had a respectfull 3rd place in the A divison. Our aim will be to grow on this position next season.
Captain: Dave Armbruster
Another great season from the Salters, the 2nd year in a row they have finsihed in second place and fought in a promotion play off, sadly losing to a strong Jesmond side. They will once again have thier sights on promotion spot next year
Great effort!!
Captain: Mike Riding
This year Divison 3 was stronger than ever with Morpeth A coming from Divison 1 and a vastly improved Newcatle University. The Regents managed a respectible 4th place and were not in contection of religation
Great season.
Captain: Ian Chester
A great performance, fighting all the way to the last game for automatic promotion. Finishing in 2nd place and sadly losing the playoff match v Forest Hall Foxes. The guys will be pushing again next season no doubt!
Great Season!!
Captain: Mark McKay
After being promoted last season this year was always going to be difficult and the aim was to stay in this division.... after a hard fought season they were safe with 2 games to spare!
Amazing season!
Captain: David Pritchard
After 3rd last season the Hawthorns were our Division 4 Champions with a game to spare!!!!
After another slow start wit losing the first game to our Woodbines and drawing the second the guys found their feet and were unbeaton for the last 5 rounds.
Worthy Champions!!
Captain: Bob Heyman
After promotion for division 5 were were not sure how they would do.... they started with an upset in beating our Hawthorns (league winners). They kept pushing for promotion and finished in a respectable 3rd place this year!!!
Great season!!
Captain: Thomas Cameron
A brand new team of juniors this year again had the adults running scared!!! Some of these juniors are as young as 8 and are beating adults who have been playing for over 50 years.
I am especially proud of how they are conducting themselves in a chess enviroment no matter if they win or lose!
So proud that the only junior team in the NCA belongs to Gosforth Chess Club. Big well done to all that took part!!
Captain: Mick Riding
A fantastic 9th team was launched this season!!! A team of completly new players and a brand new captain...... these guys were amazing all season... all keen to play and improve thier chess...... Big well done for thier first ever season!!!!!!!!
Captain: Andy Brown
This year we added 2 new teams to our roster, Gosforth Woodbines and Gosforth Jedis. For the 2022 / 2023 season we entered 8 teams in total over the 5 Northumberland Chess Association leagues. What is more impressive is the Jedis are the only all junior team in the entire NCA!!
See below how each of our teams did over the season:
After losing some keyplayers our A team have over perfomed for a second season in a row. Our aim was to stay in Division A and we did that with ease!!
Well done everyone on a solid season.
Captain: Dave Armbruster
After leading all season a defeat in the final game to Jesmond meant we played Tynemouth A in the playoffs. Sadly Tynemouth won the playoffs to keep their place in Division 1. Next year our team will be pushing for promotion!!
Great effort!!
Captain: Mike Riding
After a very rocky start to the season the team looked as if we would fight for survival! In the second half of the season the team started to put a string of results together to finish 3rd in the league!!
Great season.
Captain: Mark McKay
Arguably the hardest Division over the 5 leagues!!! With Newcastle University and Forest Hall B fielding teams that could compete for promotion in Division 2 it was always going to be a hard season. That said we still had promotion hopes on the last day of the season!
Amazing performance from the whole team!!
Captain: Ian Chester
It looked like the Ivy were going to run away with the season starting with 4 wins from 4. Forest Hall D made a us fight hard till the very end but managed to win with a game to spare!!
Amazing season, well done all!!
Captain: Antonio Stipanovic
After losing 3 out oftheir first 4 games it looked like the Hawthorns could be fighting for survival this season.
Once this realisation kicked in the team went on an amazing run that kept them unbeaten till the very last game of the season!
Great come back finishing the season on a high!!
Captain: Bob Heyman
As Gosforth Chess Club continues to grow we added a brand new team, over the season 11 players took part as a development team. They always looked favourites to win the league and only lost 1 game all season!!
New team, new players but fantastic results!!
Captain: Laura Steven
A brand new team full of juniors had the rest of the adult teams shaking in their boots!! Only losing 2 games put them in the play offs against Morpeth C. Sadly we lost the play off match but that takes nothing away from a fantastic season!!
So proud to boast the only junior team in the league. Big well done to all that took part!!
Captain: Mick Riding
